What data we collect and why
Newsletter subscription
When you subscribe to The Dark Corner newsletter, we collect your email address. This is processed by Kit (formerly ConvertKit), our email marketing platform. Your email address is used solely to send you the newsletter. The legal basis is your explicit consent. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email. Kit’s privacy policy can be found at kit.com/privacy.
Shop purchases
When you place an order in our shop, we collect your name, email address, billing address, and payment information. This is necessary to fulfil your order (legal basis: contract). Orders are processed through WooCommerce. Payments are handled by WooPayments and/or PayPal — we do not store your full payment details. Order confirmation and transactional emails are sent via Brevo.
Contact forms
If you use a contact form on this website, your name and email address are collected in order to respond to your message. This data is not used for any other purpose.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics (via Google Site Kit) to understand how visitors use this website. This may involve the collection of anonymised data about your visit, including pages viewed and time spent. Google’s privacy policy can be found at policies.google.com/privacy.
Cookies
This website uses cookies. Please refer to our Cookie Policy for details.
Hosting and infrastructure
This website is hosted on Cloudways and uses Cloudflare for performance and security. These services may process your IP address and technical request data as part of normal operation.
How long we keep your data
Newsletter subscriber data is kept for as long as you remain subscribed. Order data is kept for 7 years in accordance with Dutch tax law. Contact form data is deleted once your query has been resolved.
Your rights under GDPR
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Withdraw consent at any time (e.g. unsubscribe from the newsletter)
- Lodge a complaint with the Dutch data protection authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens)
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us via the contact form on this website.
Data transfers
Kit and Google are US-based services. Data transfers to the US are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or equivalent safeguards under GDPR.
